enry D. Gobbel, Jr. “Donnie”, 72, a 45-year resident of Mayo, Maryland and previously of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2026.
Donnie was born on September 9, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Doris M. Gobbel (Wright) and Henry D. Gobbel, Sr.
Raised in a military family, Donnie was the son of a Navy Serviceman. His father’s service gave him the unique opportunity to experience life in many parts of the country, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and California. Donnie embraced those experiences and cherished the memories made along the way, including the many cross-country road trips he took with his family.
Donnie retired from the automotive industry and was a proud member of the American Legion Post 226. In his spare time, Donnie enjoyed watching all sports, grilling, cooking crabs, and most of all, being around his friends and family. He was known for many things, but especially for his love of a good cheeseburger and a cold Budweiser. Those simple pleasures, often enjoyed with family and friends, were some of the moments that made him happiest.
Donnie is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Gail Gobbel; his daughter, Sheli (David) Gobbel of Mayo, Maryland; his siblings, John (Laura) Gobbel of Lake Butler, Florida and Kim (Don) Culver of Discovery Bay, California; his granddaughter, Kaydence Leach of Mayo, Maryland, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life honoring Donnie will be held on Sunday, September 13 at the American Legion Post 226 (840 Mayo Road, Edgewater, MD 21037) from 2 to 4 pm.
Donnie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
