Henry L. Hedges - Obituary

enry “Hank” L. Hedges, a 16-year resident of Tracy’s Landing, Maryland and previously of Syracuse, New York, passed away on October 1, 2023 at the age of 75. Born on December 8, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Ethel and Henry Hedges, Hank joined the Army Reserves as a young adult. Following his service, Hank was employed as a Certified Safety Professional and was Vice President at The Safety Company, Inc., where he helped ensure the safety of workplace environments for employees of a variety of companies. Hank is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Debra Mattie-Hedges; children, Henry L. Hedges IV (wife Angie) and Christina Spies (husband Scott) of Missouri; stepdaughter Lauren Healy of Syracuse, NY; siblings, Daryl Hedges and Sheila Massey (husband Freddy) of Bowling Green, KY; four grandchildren, Chandler and Carson Spies and Lindsey and Alexa Hedges; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Hank’s life on Friday, October 6 from 6-8 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037, where a funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, October 7 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the SPCA.
