Herbert Barcus - Obituary

H

erbert Floyd Barcus, 84, a resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away on February 7, 2016 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on May 4, 1931 in Brilliant, OH to the late Lee and Frances Barcus, Herbert was a graduate of Mingo High School. He served as a Corporal (T) in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze stars and two overseas bars. After serving his country, Herbert went to work for the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation from which he retired after 46 years of service. In 2012, he was interviewed for and featured in a Washington Post article on voter attitudes in Ohio. A scripture enthusiast, Herbert’s greatest passion was biblical prophecy. Herbert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita Barcus; two children, Robert L Barcus of Cincinnati, OH and Bernice (Delmar) Eugeni of Annapolis; three grandsons, John, Joshua and Jacob Eugeni; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, two sisters and many nephews and nieces including Richard L. Barcus. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Barcus. Friends are invited to celebrate Herbert’s life from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A committal service with military honors will be held at 1:45pm on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
