Honore Harry Bright - Obituary

H

onore Harry Bright, 87, of Ellicott City, MD, passed away on May 26, 2026. A dedicated civil servant, veteran, and lifelong learner, Honore was an analyst at heart who brought precision and passion to everything he pursued. EARLY LIFE AND MILITARY SERVICE Born in Queens, NY. Honore grew up in Hyattsville, MD, and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1956. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably for four years as a Weapons System Mechanic A2C. His time in the service sparked a lifelong pride in his country and set the stage for a distinguished career in public service. PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE Honore dedicated 36 years to the United States Federal Government. His career took him across the globe, including several positions in Germany and ultimately to the Pentagon. He retired as a Program Analyst for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness). A firm believer in the power of education, Honore earned three degrees during his life: a BA in History from the University of Maryland, an MBA in Finance Management from the University of Utah, and an MS in Computer Information Systems from Boston University. PASSIONS AND RETIREMENT In 1996, Honore retired from federal service and moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he embraced a vibrant second act. He enjoyed traveling, testing his luck at the tables, and continuing to give back to his community as a part-time substitute teacher for the Nevada school system. An avid researcher and collector, Honore spent countless hours tracing his family’s genealogy and building a significant US coin collection. He was also an active man who found joy on the slopes as an amateur downhill skier and at the lanes as a dedicated bowler. He was never happier than when he was analyzing history or recounting the details of the past with those he loved. FAMILY Honore was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Josephine; his brother, Bob; and his ex-wife, Phyllis Bright. He is survived by his three children, Greg, Kevin, and Dana; his sister, Christine; and his three grandchildren, Neal, Til, and Ian, all of whom carry forward his legacy of integrity and intellectual curiosity. SERVICES Family and friends are invited to Honore's life celebration on Friday, June 5 from 11AM-12PM, followed by his funeral at 12 PM, at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville. Please leave a condolence for the family by signing the guestbook at the Memories tab located on the left side of this page.
