oward N. Hall, 84, of Annapolis and formerly of Millersville, died September 8 at Heritage Harbour Health and Rehab Center. Born on June 21, 1928 in Berlin, he attended Buckingham High School. After graduating high school, he earned a Bachelor's Degree at Western Maryland College, a Master's Degree in Education at University of Maryland, and completed other graduate work at University of Delaware. He built a career in the public schools of Anne Arundel County, teaching for several years before becoming the principal at three elementary schools: Severn, Millersville, and Oakwood. Mr. Hall then moved into Administration, retiring in 1985 as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for Anne Arundel County Schools. During his career in education, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. After retiring, he joined the Anne Arundel Retired Teachers' Association, working on several committees and serving as president for two years. He worked on the restoration of the Anne Arundel Free School and served as chairman for its program for visitors and school children, and the training of docents. He was a life member of the National Education Association, the Anne Arundel Elementary Principals' Association, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the American Association of School Administrators and the County Reading Council. He also joined the Maryland Retired Teachers' Association and served as editor of the MRTA News for six years, Chairman of the Protective Services Committee for three years and worked as Archives Chairman. He served as AARP/NRTA Coordinator/Liaison for Maryland for six years and on other AARP committees. He had been a member of Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church since 1969. He was editor of the church newsletter for fourteen years, chairman of the History Committee and served on various other committees. His favorite pasttimes included traveling, theater, reading, cross word puzzles and spending time with family and friends. Howard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janelle Hall; two sons, Mark Hall of Los Angeles, CA, and Howard Hall and his wife Anne of Roanoke, VA; and grandson, Jeffrey Hall of College Park. Friends are invited to Howard's Life Celebration Gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 14 at George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 15 at the Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church, 921 Generals Highway, Millersville. Interment will follow at the Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Caring Network at Heritage Harbour, 801 Compass Way, Suite 5, Annapolis, MD 21401; the Anne Arundel County Free School, AARSP - Board of Education, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401; and the Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church, 921 Generals Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.
