Hubert Cave - Obituary

UBERT “BUTCH” CAVE III Hubert “Butch” Cave III, 59, of Harwood, MD died of cancer on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD. Born on July 29, 1956 in Washington, DC, Butch is survived by his parents, Carol and Hubert “Sonny” Cave Jr.; sisters Diane Cave, Jean Teetsell and Nancy Basham; nephew Michael Staples Jr.; niece Raquel Cave; and his many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Growing up in Lanham, MD Butch was an active member of the Lanham Boys Club and as a young teenager worked at RFK Stadium selling programs at Washington Redskins and Washington Senators games. After graduating from DuVal High School in 1974 he joined Sheet Metal Local 100 in Washington, DC. He owned and operated Cave Air Systems and Champion Heating and AC, Inc. prior to his retirement in April 2015. Introduced to Maryland horse racing by his paternal grandparents Butch became a multi-stakes winning trainer and owner of thoroughbred race horses. He won the 2005 Maryland Million Sprint Starter Handicap with Foxs Gold Digger, the 2009 West Virginia Breeders Classic with Amy’s Affair and the 2009 Jim McKay Maryland Million Classic with Sumatcha’hot. Butch loved Maryland horseracing, Maryland crabs, his family and his wide circle of friends. He will be remembered as a loving and generous son, brother, uncle and friend with a love of animals and as an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and the Washington Nationals. Family and friends may visit at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church 826 W. Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD. Internment: Lakemont Memorial Gardens Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Butch Cave may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
