Inkeri A. Atkins - Obituary

nkeri (Ingrid) Anna Atkins passed away on April 7, 2022 in her own home overlooking the Chesapeake Bay in Edgewater, MD. She was 94 years old. Inkeri was born on March 31, 1928 near Joensuu, Finland. In 1959, Inkeri came to the US, where she met her future husband Arthur K. Atkins in Bethesda, MD. Inkeri and Archie were married in 1963. For many years, she devotedly took care of Archie until he passed away in 2013. Inkeri and Archie enjoyed doing many things together during their 50 years of marriage. For decades, Inkeri and Archie hosted wonderful Christmas dinners for the extended family. For many years, they represented the R.D. Bean Roofing Company at Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) conventions. They traveled to major cities in the US, and around the world. Inkeri and Archie loved dogs and the Chesapeake Bay. They were avid supporters of St Jude's Children's Hospital. Inkeri traveled twice to Memphis, TN to visit the hospital. Inkeri enjoyed sewing and cooking as hobbies, and she became an expert seamstress. To stay fit, Inkeri took many classes at the Senior Center. An early learner of computer skills, Inkeri used those skills and her mathematical talents to become a very valued office manager over an extensive career at Meloy-Revlon Labs, Pritchett Controls, Inc. and Ethan Allen. Surviving family members include: step-son, Arthur K. (Connie) Atkins; step-granddaughters, Nicole (Ryan Mchugh) Atkins, Courtney (James) Brustman; step-grandsons, Scott Atkins, Chris Atkins; niece, Kathleen B. Danford; nephews, Edward F. (Naovarat) Branagan, Jr., and Michael F. (Maria Elisa) Branagan; grandnieces, Monique Pasquale (Bob Gajewski), Michelle (Paul) Ramsey, and Natalie Branagan (Dan Mullaney); grandnephew, Edward F. (Ilona) Branagan, III; great-grandnieces, Flora Branagan and Karolina Branagan; and great-grandnephew, Alex Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 12 noon on Thursday, April 14 at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037 (410-956-4488) with a funeral service to follow at noon. Burial will be at 2 PM at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
