Irene Anderson - Obituary

rene S. Anderson, a 35-year resident of Edgewater, died October 8 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of heart complications and stroke. Born in Hannover, West Germany, she owned a bar in Viernheim, West Germany during the 1950s that catered to American service personnel stationed in Kafertal, where she met her future husband. In the early 1950s, she immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized American citizen in Kansas City, Kan. in 1965. As a military wife, she lived in Germany, Kentucky, Kansas, Virginia and Maryland. While living in Radcliffe, Ky., she began her interest in antiques and collectibles, frequenting local yard and garage sales, and began buying and selling for profit. She became a successful business woman, owning and operating one of the largest retail antique businesses in Maryland, as well as a local convenience store in Edgewater. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. James Russell Anderson. She is survived by three sons, Jason Anderson of Virginia Beach, Va., Mark Anderson of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Ray Anderson of Fairfax, Va.; and three grandchildren, Michael, Jacqueline and Katherine. A graveside service will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 22 at Arlington National Cemetery.
