Irene Meyers - Obituary

rene (Ross) Meyers went home to be with her Lord on August 23, 2010 at Essex House in Tappahannock, Virginia after a long battle with dementia. She was born on September 10, 1913 in Bordertown, West Virginia and was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Eugene Meyers; her parents, Lucy and Lear Ross, her sisters, Lora and Sue. She left Bordertown and settled in Washington, D.C., where she met and married Gene Meyers. They raised their family in Temple Hills, Maryland. She was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Southern Prince George's County Kiwives for many years. She participated in numerous fund raisers to benefit the local community. Irene loved to laugh, read, dance, play games, create needlework, and listen to Big Band Music. Rene had a strong sense of family and high moral values. She never met a stranger. Irene will be dearly missed and remembered by her devoted children, Kenneth (Gloria) Meyers of Westerville, Ohio; Judy (Leon) Gonzalez of Midlothian, Virginia; Donna (Jack) Eardley of Kinsale, Virginia; loving grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Meyers, Alane Meyers, Leanne (Matthew) Singer, Todd Bowers; her dear great grandchildren, Anna and Zachary Meyers, Marcus Singer, and Tyler Bowers. Family and friends are invited to Irene's Life Celebration on Friday, August 27 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM at GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Services will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 11AM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 5203 St. Barnabas Rd., Temple Hills, MD. Interment church cemetery.
