Irene J. Mykityshyn - Obituary

I

rene J. Mykityshyn, 93, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on April 13, 2026, after a hard-fought year-long illness. Born on August 28, 1932, in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, to the late Warren and Mollie Sangiuliano, Irene grew up in a close-knit Italian family where she was surrounded by her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. She lived a life devoted to her children, her family and faith, and kindness to humanity. Irene graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in 1950 where she was involved in many activities, including cheerleading, yearbook committee, and was even crowned Snow Ball Queen. After high school, she graduated from New Jersey Secretarial School, and after many years as a homemaker, she ventured back into the workforce to provide for her children. She worked in business development for Sargent-Welch Scientific Company and was such a smart and diligent worker that she was recruited at the age of 56 by another company, Busch LLC|Busch United States, to open, staff, and manage a satellite office in New Jersey, which was a source of great pride to her. She thrived in that position until her retirement at age 70. After retirement, Irene moved to Annapolis, MD, and lived a full life that included family, friends, and adventures. Irene is survived by her children, Karen (Terry) Cook, Thomas (Mary) and Mark (Amy) Mykityshyn; her grandchildren, Joseph (Mary Ellen) and Christopher (Sarah) Cook, Matthew, Christine, Daniel, Jaclyn, Grace, and Emma Mykityshyn, and her two great-grandchildren, Connor and Amelia Irene Cook, her namesake. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, John and Paul Sangiuliano, all formerly of Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Irene was a devoted and loving mother who raised three children on her own and instilled in them confidence, compassion, faith, devotion to family, and a strong work ethic. Throughout her life, and despite becoming legally blind in her 80s, Irene was a model of love, kindness, and grace, and had a special gift of making all people feel like they mattered. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for Irene on Thursday, April 23 at 10:30 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Blinded Veterans Association or the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (USA branch). Condolences may be made by using the Memories link on this page.
