Irini Sophocles - Obituary

rini P. Sophocles, 64, a resident of Annapolis for 40 years, died of cancer Aug. 21 at her home after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Sophocles was born in Cyprus on Sept. 29, 1942. She was a member of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Her interests included cooking, sewing, going to the beach and her three grandchildren. Also surviving are her husband, Paul Sophocles, whom she married Oct. 11, 1964; one son, Michael P. Sophocles of Annapolis; one daughter, Eleni S. Dykstra of Severna Park; two brothers, Neophetos Kacoyianni of Annapolis and Nick Kakoyianni of London, Ontario, Canada; and one sister, Mary Christoforou of Annapolis. A life celebration will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Ss. Constantine and Helen Creek Orthodox Church, with burial to follow in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery on Riva Road.
