J

ohn Philip Myer, a 32 year resident of Churchton, MD and previously of Edgewater, MD passed away on Wednesday, January 26 at home surrounded by family after a 20 month fight with pancreatic cancer. Also known as Phil, Pop and Philip (only allowed by a select few) he was born on February 27, 1956 in Cheverly, MD to Sally Jane and the late Walter L. Myer. Phil graduated from Bowie High School in 1973, a year early, and then completed the UA Mechanical Trade School with Steamfitters Local 602 in 1978. Phil was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gambrills, MD, a 46 year member of Local 602, a member of the Steamfitters Local 602 Retirees Club and was a former member of the St. Paul’s worship band, “Whatever”. Phil enjoyed hunting with his buddies at the cabin in West Virginia, working on his 1950 Ford with his Dad, attending and watching the Washington Capitals and Redskins games with friends and family, cooking and most of all attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and being a sideline referee. Phil is survived by his wife of 43 years, Connie Dunn Myer; his daughter, Mari Jayne Myer Rogers; his son in law, Kenneth Rogers; his grandchildren, Rilee and Kamden Rogers; his siblings, Susan DiSilvestre, James “Mike” Myer and Pamela Kremer as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to celebrate Phil’s life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, February 3 from 3 to 6pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Highway, Gambrills, MD on Friday, February 4 at 11 am. Interment will be held privately at a later date at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Wellness House of Annapolis, 2625 Mas Que Farm Rd., Annapolis, MD 21403 or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Ste. 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, both of which have been a huge support to Phil and his family during his fight.
