ack Edward Thomas, 66, a lifetime resident of Annapolis, MD died on February 4, 2009 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, MD of cancer.
Born, March 23, 1942 in Kenvir, KY, he was a 1960 graduate of Annapolis High School and also attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Earlier in his life, he owned and operated the Wye Mills Sporting Goods Store for 10 years. After that, he was a banker with Citizens National Bank in Laurel, MD for many years. Mr. Thomas served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He loved hunting, fishing, crabbing and his friends and family.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Frances Thomas, whom he married on October 21, 1966 and who died on September 18, 2002; father of Leslie L. Bates of Annapolis, MD; grandfather of Julia Bates of Annapolis, MD; he is also survived by his mother, Ruby Irene Sheffer of Glen Burnie, MD. Friends are invited to Mr. Thomas' Life Celebration on Sunday, February 8 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD, where services will be held Monday, February 9 at 1pm. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy., Annapolis, MD 21401.
