J

ackson S. Jurliss, 85, a long time resident of Oxon Hill, MD and recently, Annapolis, MD died from complications of Alzheimer's disease on February 2, 2009. Mr. Jurliss was born in Denver, Colorado January 26, 1924 He was a decorated Navy Corpsman who served in WWII in the South Pacific during campaigns on Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and Guam. He graduated from the Columbia School of Art in Washington, DC and worked as a Cartographer for the Defense Mapping Agency before retiring. Mr. Jurliss, an amateur astronomer, enjoyed painting, drawing, and was an aficionado of Big Band Era music. Mr. Jurliss was preceded in death by his wife Beverly A. Jurliss, sister, Sally Meyer, and son Brian W. Jurliss. Survivors include his daughter, Dianne M. Jones, and grandson, Jordon A. Jones. Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in late Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy.
