"Pop" was a helluva guy-- after high school he did a hitch in the post-war Army with duty in Germany as part of the occupation force. A master automotive mechanic with over 40 years experience-- he worked at numerous Chevy and Ford service departments in DC and Maryland. He knew his engines--he could overhaul a small block Chevy or Ford V-8 with his eyes closed. A devout Christian man he regularly attended services at his Church, studied and knew the Bible. He always had an upbeat optimistic attitude with quick wit, a smile and a joke. He'll be missed!
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Bailey; father of Linda Rayland, Debbie Colleran and Judy Olonovich and the late Charles Hewitt; brother of Helen Blair; uncle of Stephen Blair. He is also survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Bailey's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 12 noon until time of service at 1:00pm. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 3pm.
