James Allen Burgess - Obituary

James “Jim” Allen Burgess, 91, a 46-year resident of Crownsville, MD, and previously of Crofton, MD, died on August 14, 2026, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on June 15, 1935, in Flint, MI, Jim attended Michigan State University and was the owner of Central GMC, Inc. He was a member of Woodmore Country Club. His interests included golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Burgess; his brother, Jack Burgess; and his sisters, Linda Travis and Mary Lou Turner of Michigan. Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen J. Burgess; his children, Gregory G. Halsey of Annapolis, MD, Bradley J. Burgess of Hawaii, Karen L. Rizzo of Edgewater, MD, and Mimi Andrian of Hawaii; his sister, Pat Martin and her husband, Jack, of Grand Blanc, MI; his grandson, Chase A. Halsey; his granddaughters, Arielle N. Halsey, Jessica Gong, and Vera Burgess; and three great-grandchildren, Annabelle Gong, Arthur Gong, and Andrine Gong. Friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life on Sunday, August 23 from 5 to 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, August 24 at 1 pm.
