ames C. Butler, III, 80, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 after a brief illness. Born on November 20, 1937 to the late James C. “Cam” Butler, II and Katherine “Kip” Wernher Butler, Jim grew up in Syracuse, NY and graduated from Nottingham High School in 1955, The Manlius School in 1956 and Brown University in 1960. Jim met Betsy Maclin one summer during college, they married on February 6, 1960 and spent 56 years devoted to one another. Jim spent most of his career as the President of Syracuse Pottery, the family business. Jim and Betsy lived for many years in Syracuse, NY and Henderson Harbor, NY. In later years they lived in Sedona, AZ and Odenton, MD. Most recently Jim was a resident of Sunrise of Annapolis. Jim loved fishing, boating, bowling and going out with friends and family. He was always gracious and fun-loving – for many years he and his wife hosted an annual weekend fishing trip in the summer for a group of friends called The Fudpuckers. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Butler on April 26, 2017. He is survived by his children, James C. (Tricia) Butler, IV and Janet (Robert) Berry and his grandchildren, Manny, Nate, Talia, Kate and Callie. Memorial services will be held at a later date at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Crownsville, MD and in Syracuse, NY.
