ames David Colwell, age 59, a resident of Annapolis for 40 years, died May 30 at his residence of natural causes. Born on August 30, 1953 in Madison, PA to the late James Franklin and Laura Bell Colwell, Dave graduated from Annapolis High School in 1971. He worked at the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation, at Sport Chevrolet as an estimator and at the WalMart in Bowie as an automotive associate for 15 years. He was self taught and multi-talented in all facets of automotive repair. A member of Annapolis Moose Lodge #296, Dave enjoyed car racing, working on his many automotive projects, woodworking in his elaborate woodshop at his home; and he also had quite the green thumb. He is survived by his former wife, Joanne Riley; two daughters, Angela Jo Colwell and Adele Whitaker, both of Annapolis; three sisters, Linda Ibert of New Orleans, LA, Martha Haschert of Edgewater and Loretta Feidt of Laurel and three granddaughters, Lindsey B., Maddie L. and Kenzie G. Whitaker, all of Annapolis. Friends are invited from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until Dave’s memorial service begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A celebration of his life will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at his daughter, Adele’s home. Interment private. In Dave’s memory the family is requesting potted plants and flowers be sent for his garden instead of cut flowers.
