James A. Hawkins - Obituary

ames A. Hawkins, affectionately known as Horace, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2021. Horace retired as a Route Manager from the Evening Star. He was a long-time cab driver and a proud Army veteran. He was an avid card player with spades and pinochle being his favorite games. He was predeceased by his parents, Leroy and Jane Hawkins and his sons, Darryl and Lester Hawkins. Horace married Mary Agnes Lyles in February 1954 and out of that union they had seven children. Horace is survived by his loving children: Connie Jackson, Joyce Cole (David), Leroy, Jozef and Keturah Hawkins; his 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild and by his sister, Lovella John and host of nieces, nephews and cousins Friends may call at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 2401 Brinkley Rd., Ft. Washington, MD 20744 on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial starts at 11:30 a.m. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
