O

n Saturday January 3, 2009, the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Payne Latimer, father of James W., III and Timothy Latimer, husband of the late Evelyn Wendt Latimer, brother of the late Beatrice Wynn and Randolph Latimer, he is survived by his step-daughter Karen Alexander and many relatives and friends. His life was one of service to others and involvement with the community. Born 1923 in Washington DC, he served honorably in the Army-Air Corp during World War II, was a 20 year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department, member of the Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, president of the Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Lions Clubs, member of the Elks, VFW, NRA, volunteer driver for the Red Cross and participated in many other groups and activities. Music was a major part of his life and he played drums in the Metropolitan Police Band, and was the drummer for various dance bands in the Washington-Baltimore area. Family and friends may call GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd. Oxon Hill, MD. on Friday, January 16 from 11a.m. until time of service at 12:45p.m. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy, Annapolis,MD. 21401. Reception to follow interment at Knights of Columbus in Forestville, MD.
