James Thomas Malone - Obituary

ames Thomas Malone, 81, of Annapolis, MD passed away on May 8th at his home. Jim was born on July 5th, 1940 to Leeander and Dorothy Malone in Terre Haute, Indiana. After finishing high school in 1958 he went on to college at The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology graduating in 1962 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation he served 2 years in the Army at Fort Hood before being discharged in 1965 as a first lieutenant. Jim married Barbara Ann Risch of Vincennes, Indiana in August 1964. Together they moved to Maryland, where they raised a family and Jim started a long career at Westinghouse, working mainly with unmanned underwater vehicles. This experience would last for over 39 years ending in his retirement in 2005. Throughout his life Jim had many hobbies, including car racing, autocross events and target shooting. He immersed himself in computer technology & programming and the “Where’s George” online community for tracking US currency. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and cheering on The Washington Capitols. Jim is survived by his children Robert Malone and Karen Lyons, grandchildren Lily, Jack, Campbell and Molly, his former wife Barbara Newton and his brother Bill Malone.
