he family of James S. Montgomery is saddened to announce that Jim passed away at home on January 14, 2022 from malignant melanoma. Born December 11, 1958 at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Jim grew up in Severna Park. He graduated from Severna Park High School in 1976 and Oklahoma State University in 1984 where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering. While at OSU, he met his wife of 37 years, Ann Schwartz Montgomery, whom he married April 27, 1985 in Tulsa. They moved to Annapolis where Jim worked as an engineer for General Motors before starting his own construction company, James S. Montgomery & Sons, Inc. In the past 35 years, Jim has built over 90 custom homes including repeat houses for several homeowners, as well as his own family home. Jim enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, family game nights, and travel. He visited Europe several times, including six trips to Munich for Oktoberfest with a large group of great friends. He loved boating on the Chesapeake Bay and owned many boats over the years, including two that he built himself. He was an accomplished shotgun shooter and competed in Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays. He loved spending quality time with his wife and kids and made family vacations a priority, including a trip to Ocean City every year of his life. Jim loved getting together with friends over a fine meal or a good beer. He was very outgoing and it was a running joke that he would befriend a total stranger everywhere he went. Jim was always up for a fun time and loved to share in new adventures with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Ann, Jim is survived by his four children: Andrew, Ben (Katy), and Mary Kate all of San Diego, and Rose (Matt) of Havertown, PA; his grandson, Tyler James of San Diego; his sister, Marianne (Ken) Doyle of Ellijay, GA and brother, George (Kim) Montgomery of Ridgely, MD as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
