AMES ROSS
James Ross of Annapolis, MD and previously of Bowie passed away on September 30, 2015 surrounded by his family. Born on April 22, 1937 to the late Charles and Mary Ross in Washington, DC, James was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High school after which he joined the Navy and served for 8 years. He joined the Prince George's County Police Department in 1959, and would serve the county until his retirement as a Major in 1992. During this time, James also returned to the military, this time serving in the Army Reserves as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 from 1978 to 1998. James earned a Bachelor's Degree from American University and graduated from the FBI academy in Quantico, VA. James' interests included traveling, genealogy and running, at which he completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 1995. A man of great faith with a kind and generous spirit, James was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Prince George's FOP. James was preceded in death by his two brothers, Richard and Charles Ross. He is survived by his wife, of 57 years Barbara Ross; two daughters, Victoria (James) Dugan of Oak Hill, VA, Kimberly Ross (Steve Jaros) of Baton Rouge, LA; and three grandsons, Andrew (Katelynn) Dugan of Dallas, TX, Christopher Dugan of Dallas, TX, and Michael Dugan of Oak Hill, VA. Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, October 8 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 9 at 9 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
