James P. Tucker, Jr. - Obituary

J

ames Preston Tucker Jr., who we affectionately called Jimmy, was born on November 11, 1968, to the late James Preston Tucker Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Scrivers in Washington, DC. After battling illness, Jimmy peacefully answered the Master’s call on March 7, 2023 at 8:12 pm. In 1976, James Sr. and Frances relocated to Maryland where Jimmy and his siblings received their education in the Prince George’s County Public School system. He attended Oxon Hill High School, where he participated in several extracurricular activities, his favorite being the JROTC Drill Team. Drill Team practice was always the highlight of his school day! If Jimmy wasn't working on his precision and execution at school, he was at home doing what brought him the most joy- singing and dancing! Jimmy knew every dance step in every Michael Jackson video and could sing every lyric to every song, too! If you didn't know any better, you'd think the King of Pop himself was front and center, performing in our living room! No one could dress like Jimmy; he was in a league of his own, and his sense of style was unmatched. From Girbaud to Ralph Lauren, he had it all. He was colorful soul and his wardrobe was the same. He was a true fashion trendsetter! Jimmy entered the workforce and began his federal government employment career working with the Internal Revenue Service and then the Department of Agriculture, where he worked until falling ill. But that didn’t stop Jimmy from living his best life. You knew when he was home because gospel music filled the air, as did the rich tenor sound he belted loudly. If your spirit was uneasy or troubled, he made sure to change that, whether he knew it or not. There's no doubt he’s flashing that million-dollar smile, singing and dancing with his Aunts Dee Dee and Barbara Ann, and sharing a laugh with his mom and dad in Heaven. His grand life will forever be cherished in the lives of his siblings: Joan Simpson, Jean Whitney, Eva “Candy” Taliaferro, Pearl Tucker, and Renard Tucker (Tanya). He also leaves to cherish his memory: 13 nieces, nephews, and a host of family and close friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his partner, Angelo Nelson. Additionally, he leaves to cherish his memory, devoted longtime friend, Rodney Jackson. Relatives and friends are invited to James's Life Celebration on Monday, March 2, 2023, from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral at 12 noon at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment Lincoln Cemetery.
