ames “Jimmy” Wells, Sr., a 23-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Brentwood died suddenly on May 27, 2011 at his home.
Born May 17, 1955, to the late Horace and Rita Wells, Jimmy was a 1972 graduate of Northwestern Senior High School in Hyattsville. He was employed as the owner and operator of American Tank in Edgewater since 2001. Jimmy was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Edgewater, a life member and former chief of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department, life member of Mt. Rainier Volunteer Fire Department and was an active volunteer in the Woodland Beach Community. During Jimmy’s firefighting career, he saved many lives. He loved riding his Harley, boating, fishing, trips to Ocean City, playing practical jokes, making people laugh and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Cheryl A. (Kidwell) Wells in 2010; and a daughter, Christina Wells on April 17, 2011
Jimmy is survived by 3 sons, James Wells, Jr. of Elkridge, Shane Mohler of Edgewater and Moses Wells of Edgewater; 4 daughters, April M. Wells-Katz of Odenton, Farrah Mohler of Edgewater, Lindsay Kidwell of Edgewater and Victoria Daugherty-Wells of Edgewater; brother, Bernard Wells, Sr. of Bowie; two sisters, Mary Wells-Cooksey of Brentwood and Janet Reynolds of Tampa, FL; also survived by 6 grandchildren, Cody Gwinn, Devin Keller, Kelsey Katz and Dylan, Kayla and Kiersten Wells.
Friends are invited to Jimmy’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater on Friday, June 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm, with a brief fireman’s service beginning at 8pm. Interment private. Memorial donations may be made in Jimmy’s name to the The D.C. Firefighters Burn Foundation, P.O. Box 4565, Washington, DC 20017. To honor Jimmy’s love of motorcycles, please ride in his honor. The family asks that any firefighting personnel attending to please wear their dress uniforms.
