J

anice “Jan” Taylor Bahen, a 35-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Upper Marlboro, MD and Stuart, FL, passed away on January 25, 2024. Born on July 28, 1937 to the late Josephine May Owen and Harry Lee Taylor, Jan was raised in Washington DC. After the tenth grade, she attended St. Mary’s Seminary Junior College (now St. Mary’s College of Maryland) for the remainder of high school and college, culminating in her associate’s degree. After college, Jan worked for a number of years as a secretary in Washington DC. In 1961, she married the late Joseph Bahen Jr. Joe soon left the employ of his father’s construction company and, together with Jan, established Pioneer Builders Inc., a commercial general construction firm serving the Washington metro area. Over the years, Jan was a longtime member of Old South Country Club and the Marlborough Hunt Club. Jan is preceded in death by her late husband of forty years, Joseph Bahen Jr., who passed in 2001; her brother, Harry “Mickey” Taylor, who passed in 2010; and her later life partner of 18 years, Peter McLean. She is survived by her beloved children, Michael, Patrick, and Timothy Bahen and Lisa Bahen Durst; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her half siblings, Linda Eaton and Stephen Taylor, both of CA. Friends are invited to celebrate Jan’s life on Sunday, February 18 from 1 to 2:30 pm, with a brief service and sharing of remembrances at 2 pm, at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jan’s name can be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
