Dorothy Janice Meader "Janice", a 68-year resident of Oxon Hill, Maryland, passed away in her sleep at Sunrise Senior Living in Mount Vernon, Virginia on March 7th 2023.  She had been diagnosed with cancer on September 19th, 2022.  She was 84 years old.

Janice was born in Easton, MD on July 11th, 1938 to the late Homer and Hertilene Cornelius.  She had one brother, Ernest Cornelius. 

Growing up in Washington DC, for the majority of her formative years, Janice enjoyed spending time with her friends in the Methodist Youth Fellowship at Mckendree Church, where she met her husband Fred.  The family moved to Oxon Hill, MD her senior year of high school. After graduating from Oxon Hill High School in 1956, Janice studied dictation/shorthand and worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and the Appeals Council of the Social Security Administration in Washington DC.

On March 28th 1959, Janice married Frederick Irwin Meader and started a long life together in Oxon Hill, Maryland.  In 1960, their first child was born and Janice soon became a full time mother and homemaker. She loved the Lord, motherhood and family and over the next four decades raised 5 children.  In her words it was the greatest job she ever had.

She loved sewing, gardening, crafts, family camping excursions on the East Coast, animals (Cats especially) and babysitting/caring for numerous neighborhood children, as well as her beloved Grandchildren.  In 1988, Janice went to work as a page at the Oxon Hill Branch of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System and worked in this position for 32 years, before calling it quits in 2020.  She lived the last 16 months at Sunrise Senior Living at Mount Vernon, Virginia until she went home to be with the Lord on March 7th, 2023. 

Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her only brother “Bub”.

Janice is survived by her beloved husband Frederick Meader, her five children: Steven (Donna) Meader, Michael (Angela) Meader, Christopher Meader, Kendall Meader, and Timothy (Terri Chow) Meader, her five grandchildren: Elaina (Shawn) Swor, Nina (Ivan) Corretjer, Krista Meader, Whitney (Travis) Little, and Joshua Meader, her five great grandchildren: Braylon Swor, Brielle Swor, Rowan Little, Lillie Little and Maxwell Corretjer.

Remembrance of Janice’s life will be held on Tuesday April 4th at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory: 6160 Oxon Hill road Oxon Hill, MD 20745, there will be a viewing from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with a service from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Another viewing will follow the service from 6:30PM to 8:00 PM.
