J

anice Marie Myers (White) of Arnold, passed away peacefully at home on March 12th after a lengthy illness. Janice was born on December 17, 1938 in Washington, DC to the late Elmer Joseph and Hester Hatcher White. She spent her childhood growing up in Takoma Park, attending Grace United Methodist Church where she was an active member of Job’s Daughters. Throughout the 1940’s and 50’s her family spent the summer months at their cottage in Woodland Beach on the South River, moving to the community of Edgewater Beach at the start of her senior year of high school. Janice graduated from Annapolis Senior High in 1956, lettering in woman’s basketball. She worked briefly for the C&P Telephone Company in Annapolis as a long distance operator before marrying Laymon J. Myers in 1957. She settled in Arnold in 1964 and, along with her husband, raised four children. Once their youngest entered high school, Janice went to work for the Anne Arundel County School system working in food services. She retired as the head cook at Broadneck Senior High School in 2008. She enjoyed gardening, reading, staying fit and traveling. During her summers off from work, Janice traveled the US with her husband seeing the sights of all fifty states and Canada. In addition to her parents, Janice is predeceased by her husband, Laymon J. Myers and her youngest brother, John Hatcher White. She is survived by her children, Jay (Cindy) of Arnold, Jan Fischer of Arnold, Rick (Carrie) of Ridgely and Barb (Donald) Hildebrand of Annapolis along with six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers James T. White of Falls Church, VA and Joseph R. (Lois) White of Kill Devil Hills, SC. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 17th at 11am at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Interment is private.
