anie Mary White, a 3-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Churchton, MD for 30-years, died on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a 10-year battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 90. She was born December 6, 1924 in Charlotte, NC, to the late Charles Henry and Eloise Austin Smith. Janie was employed, doing clerical work, at Capital Hill Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital and the U.S. Senate. She was a long time volunteer at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, New Bay Times, Anne Arundel Medical Center and the Arena Stage. Her memberships included Centenary Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and the South County Senior Center. Janie enjoyed crafts, crocheting, ceramics, travelling, reading and visiting with family. Janie was preceded in death by her first husband, William E. Hardy in 1962; three daughters, Patricia Hardy, Wilma Bainhauer and Carolyn Deavers; nine siblings, John, Charles, Nathan, Alfred and Lloyd Smith, Martha Harris, Vera Bowie, Evelyn Ogle and Gloria Kirby; two grandchildren, John Mulvey and Martha Bainhauer. She is survived by her husband, of 41 years, Arthur J. White; two daughters, Carmen Smith of Churchton, MD and Theresa Hanbury of Naples, FL; two stepchildren, Arthur J. White of Fredericksburg, VA and Denise Shifflett of Stafford, VA; 11 grandchildren, Janemarie Mulvey of Naples, FL, Judy Bainhauer of Allentown, PA, Margaret Dupree of Arcadia, FL, Teresa Fiore of Mt. Airy, MD, Jane Ellen Bainhauer of Fogelsville, PA, Carrie Bryan of Newark, DE, Michael Bainhauer of Lititz, PA, Harry Hanbury of New York City, NY, Austin Smith of Chester, MD, Charles Smith of Pasadena, MD and Frederick J. Bainhauer, III of Allentown, PA; three step grandchildren, Jessica Tyler and Kenneth and Douglas Shiflett, all of Stafford, VA; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Friends may call at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Monday July 20 from 10am until time of her funeral service begins at 11am. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham.
