Jean O. Connell - Obituary

ean O. Connell, 87, a resident of Edgewater, MD for 17 years and previously of Camp Springs, MD, died at her home on June 17, 2016, due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Born on January 30, 1929, in Washington, D.C. to the late James and Mary O'Connor, Jean graduated from St. Cecilia's Academy. She was an administrative assistant with the U.S. Congress from 1948 to 1982. She was a devout Catholic who loved history books and traveling. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Connell who died in 1995. They were married in 1950. She is survived by her children, Patrick (Donna) Connell of Annandale, VA, William Connell of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Mary (Joe) Angle of Rockville, MD and Cathy (Bill) Hammond of Annapolis, MD; her grandchildren, Jason, Patrick, Michael, Daniel and Julie Connell, William and Annie Hammond, Maggie and Bill Angle and Jessie Aiken and three great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Jean's life from 6 to 8pm on Sunday, June 26 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11am on Monday, June 27 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Rd. , Edgewater, MD. Interment will be private at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.
