ean Boyle Harter, 98, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at her home in Heritage Harbour. Born on February 11, 1918, in Philadelphia, PA to the late James and Marguerite Boyle, Jean was educated in Philadelphia. She married Stuart D. Harter on October 4, 1941. Stuart joined the U.S. Coast Guard which took the couple to San Diego, CA for a few years before they returned to the east coast. Jean was a homemaker and a volunteer for almost 40 years at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. She loved people and enjoyed dinner parties, her book club and traveling across the country with the Airstream Club. Most of all, Jean was a wonderful role model for her daughters and she was always supportive of their endeavors which included horseback riding, boating and water activities. In her later years, Jean loved family gatherings, especially when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were included. Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Stuart, who died in 1999. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Carr of Davidsonville, MD and Jo-an DeSell of Southern Pines, NC; two grandchildren, Kevin Sweeney of Eldersburg, MD and Melissa Burgess of Sykesville, MD, and five great-grandchildren. A chapel service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a celebration of Jean’s life at her home beginning at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the requests donations are made to the charity of your choice or that you buy lunch for an elderly person.
