ean Z. Moreland, 86, a resident of Edgewater and Kent Village for more than 50 years, died March 12 at Anne Arundel Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born October 25, 1924 in Lorton, VA and later moved with her family to Maryland where she graduated from Bladensburg High School. Jean was a property manager for Kent Village Apartments and a member of the London Towne Peppers. She was an avid golfer until age 83 and counted her two holes-in-one among her greatest achievements. She also enjoyed watching golf tournaments and reading. Her greatest passion though was her family; she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Richard A. Moreland, who died in 2000 and two sisters, Betty Lange and Bernice Naylor.
She is survived by son, Richard “Rick” (Loretta) Moreland of Edgewater; daughter, Linda (Charles) Moreland-Smith of Bowie; three grandchildren: Charles E. (Carrie Elizabeth) Smith, Carrie Jean (Larry) Dawes, Christopher D. Moreland and Ann D. Yorty; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to Jean’s Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, on Tuesday, March 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, March 16, from 10:30 a.m. until funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
