Jerome Jackson - Obituary

O

BITUARY JEROME HENRY “SONNY” JACKSON February 5, 1919 – December 22, 2008 Jerome Henry Jackson was born and raised in Harlem, New York, the son of Jerome Henry Jackson, Sr. and Lillian Rose McLaren Jackson. He attended New York City public schools, and after high school, worked various jobs in addition to assisting his mother in managing several rental properties. Jerome heroically served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Yeoman First Class, receiving several medals in recognition of his service. Jerome completed training in dental mechanics as well as real estate. He married his life partner, Ruth P. Bowles, in 1951 and resided in Manhattan until December 2006, when they moved to Maryland to live with their daughter. Most of his career was based in real estate management, providing a residence for many less fortunate individuals; he was always willing to help friends and family. Jerome had a great artistic talent, and enjoyed all types of music and art. He was well-read, could carry on an intriguing conversation on most any topic, and his unique wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed. Jerome is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth; daughter, Karen; granddaughters, Jennifer Jones (Robert), Kristina Johnson; great-grandson, Cy “Cyclone” Jones; brothers-in-law, James (Jane) Bowles Sr. and Arthur (Yolanda) Bowles Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jerome was a loving, caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will live on in our memories forever. Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Jackson's Life Celebration on Sunday, December 28, 2008 from 3pm until time of service at 4pm at the GEORGE P.
