Nov 3, 1938 - Nov 17, 2014
n Tuesday, November 18, 2014, our beloved Jerome Edgar Moore was called home to fish in the beautiful river of eternity. He grabbed his rod, reel and tackle box and answered the call home. Jerome was born on November 3, 1938, at Gallinger Municipal Hospital to Mary Elizabeth Moore - Anderson (preceded him in death) in Washington, D.C. As a little boy he was raised in Beaverdam, Virginia and was later reared in the District of Columbia. Jerome was educated in the DC Public School system and graduated from Phelps Vocational High School. Jerome was a member of the United States Army Reserve where he served for several years prior to being honorably discharged. He was a truck driver for more than 35 years. During this time he was employed with Motor Freight Trucking Company, Giant Foods, and America Best Freight (ABF). He was recognized for his Driver Safety, having received numerous awards and commendations. After retiring from ABF, he drove part-time on Saturday’s with Safeway. He was a lifetime member of the Local Union Number 639. Jerome was deeply loved, and enjoyed his family and friends. His favorite pastime activities were roller-skating, fishing, art, gardening and landscaping. He taught all of his children how to roller skate and even a few of their friends. He loved fishing with his friends and grandsons. He grew the biggest squash, collard greens, cucumbers and peppers in his garden. As the Mayor of Twelfth Street, he ran the “Twelfth Street Landscaping Company” and maintained the yards of several of his neighbors. Jerome had an outgoing and engaging personality, and could be found most days joking and conversing with those that passed by. He always had a kind word to share. A natural born artist, he could be found sitting in the sun on his porch drawing. If you knew him, then you knew that he loved to dance, and could often be seen doing his famed two-step known as the “Shoop-Shoop”! He enjoyed listening to oldies but goodies on WPFW-89.3 FM with Captain Fly. Jerome leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Delores F. Moore of 43 years; his children Beverly (Vince) Taylor, Jacqueline Elem, Carvette Moore, Priscilla (Jean) Pierre, Robin Greer and Lisa (Dwan) Bryant all of Maryland; grandchildren Briana and Sydney Bryant (Lisa & Dwan); William McQueen and Ahmad-Rashad Elem (Jacqueline); Patrice Rice and Brian Dumas (Carvette); Leroy and Jerome White and Kizzie Reed (Beverly); April Broadus and JeNeen Cain (Priscilla & Jean); 29 great-grandchildren; his siblings Ronald (Rita) Anderson, Yvonne Waller, Francis Meredith, Marie (Curtis) Waller, Michael Anderson; Maurice Anderson and Walter Anderson (preceded him in death); 28 nephews and nieces, and a host of friends. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment will be private.
