Jerry Hidalgo Cabotaje - Obituary

t is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Hidalgo Cabotaje, who entered into eternal rest on March 25, 2026 at the age of 61. Born on September 6, 1964, in Tayug, Philippines, to the late Catalino G. Cabotaje and Juanita H. Cabotaje, Jerry was the eighth of ten children. In 1983, he embarked on a journey to the United States in pursuit of a brighter future. He later attended the Lincoln Technical Institute in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where he became a gifted Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and car repair specialist. Known for his exquisite hands-on skills and ability to fix, build, and find a mechanical solution for anything. He was an effective and passionate mechanic. His work was not just a job but a calling, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to repair any vehicle, ensuring it would run like new. Jerry's ingenuity and potential led him to a new challenge as a Process Control Assistant for the United States Postal Service, a career that would become his legacy for over 30 years. His dedication, strong work ethic, and deep-rooted faith were a testament to his love for his family. He found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, from fishing to sharing his passion for music as a DJ at family gatherings, where his favorite song, "Y.M.C.A.," was always a highlight. Jerry will be fondly remembered as "Uncle Jerry," "DJ Jerry," "YMCA Jerry," “Elling J,” and “Heels, and for his hardworking spirit and the countless times he helped others with his skills & kindness. Jerry is survived by his siblings: Rolando, Eduardo, Wilhelmina, Minda, Darwin, Nancy, Homer, and Cheryl, as well as many wonderful nephews, nieces, and a wide circle of friends who were like family. His memory will be forever cherished in our hearts, and his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for Jerry's Life Celebration on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 and Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 OXON HILL ROAD, OXON HILL, MD 20745. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 10 A.M. at St Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway, 13405 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735. Interment to follow at St Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway Cemetery, 13405 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
