J

erry A. Simmons, 82, who honorably served our country for 30 years, died at his home of 40 years in Ft. Washington, MD on January 17 of natural causes. Col. Simmons received his BS degree from Florida A&M University in 1953 and a Master’s degree from Central Michigan University. After a decorated and illustrious career serving as a pilot and then in command positions with the US Army, he was employed at Lockheed Martin and later GE Aerospace. An advocate for higher education, he was an active member of Florida A&M Alumni Association, Omega Psi Phi fraternity, MOAA, Tuskegee Airmen Association, 174th Assault Helicopter Company Association, NAACP, Habitat for Humanity, and many others. Beloved husband of Lula M. Simmons, he is survived by three children, Marian, Angela, and Jerry III; one grandchild, Tiffany, and many devoted family & friends. Family and friends are invited to Jerry's Life Celebration on Tuesday February 11, 2014 from 9am until time of service at 11am at Ebenezer AME Church, 7707 Allentown Rd, Fort Washington Md. Interment Arlington National Cemetery on April 29, at 2pm. If you are going to attend please meet at the Administration Building by 12:30pm. Please sign the online guestbook below.
