Joan M. Cammarata - Obituary

oan M. Cammarata, 86, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, MD, died on Saturday, March 4 at her home due to cancer. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was affectionately known as “Nona” to her family. Born on February 8, 1937 in Annapolis to the late Alvin and Maryland Guare, Joan attended Annapolis Senior High School. She worked for the State of Maryland Tax Assessment Office as an administrative assistant and was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church and the Red Hatters. Joan enjoyed the simpler things that life provides; a hand of cards with friends, a round of golf or just sitting at home with a nice glass of wine and a magazine would put a smile on her beautiful face. She loved being around her family and friends. Going to her grandchildren’s games, community happy hours, family get-togethers or organizing community golf tournaments were some of her most cherished activities. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles J. Cammarata and her brother, James Guare. She is survived by her children, Mark Cammarata of Pasadena, MD, Leslie Schneider of Chester, MD and Pamela Cammarata of Frankford, DE; her brother, Douglas Guare of Stevensville, MD; her grandchildren, Justin and Nicolas Schneider and Lindsey Braun and 7 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Joan’s life on Saturday, March 11 from 11 am until her funeral service begins at 12 noon at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
