J

oan G. Gateau, 91, peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Born May 29, 1931, in Washington, DC, to the late John Harrington and Stella Schreiner, she graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Washington, DC. Joan was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis, MD, and enjoyed gardening, camping and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Gateau; a son, William F. Gateau and seven siblings, June Keyworth, and Jack, Jerry, Bobby, James, Thomas, and Donny Harrington. Joan is survived by two children, Jean Hayden (Paul) of Huntingtown, MD and David E. Gateau (Patty); her daughter-in-law, Sandy Gateau of Annapolis, MD; a sister, Jane Eaton; 24 grandchildren, Paul, James, Stephen, Tommy, Danny, William, and Matthew Hayden, Mary Johnson, Cathleen Pirner, Elizabeth Sens, Joanne Brown, Theresa Robinson, Stella Stover, Ellen Wright, David, John, Joseph, William and Thomas Gateau, Pamela Colistra, Becky Dauses, Sheryl Nickel, Jackie Medaris and Anna Dove, 70 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Joan’s life on Friday, December 9 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, with a prayer service at 7:30 pm, at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, December 10 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.
