Joan A. Lawson - Obituary

t is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Lawson, who departed this life peacefully on July 21, 2024, at the age of 88. Born and raised in Bridgeport, CT, she was the cherished only child of George and Isabelle Eck. Joan's life was forever changed when she met her beloved midshipman and future husband, Thomas Lawson. Their love story spanned 53 wonderful years until Thomas's passing. Together, they made Annapolis their home, where Joan's vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Joan pursued her passion for education, graduating from Anne Arundel Community College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She dedicated her career to nurturing young minds as an assistant teacher at The Harbour School. Her warmth and kindness extended beyond the classroom, as she was a devoted volunteer with the local SPCA, driven by her lifelong love for dogs. Joan's remarkable ability to make friends easily and her infectious smile made her a beloved figure in Annapolis. Her presence will be deeply missed by her community and all who knew her. She is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate Joan's life will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032, on Friday, August 9 at 2:30 PM, as the service will adhere to a strict 15-minute duration.
