Joan Shine - Obituary

oan E. Shine (Berg) of Annapolis, Md. Died on December 20, 2010. She was the beloved wife of the late Captain Eugene F. Shine, Jr., USN retired. Joan is survived by her three loving daughters, Cathy Levey of Berkeley Springs, WV, Christy Norman of Bowie, MD and Sunny Erwin of Virginia Beach, VA; her five beloved grandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew Norman of Bowie, MD, Michael and Christopher Brune of Berkeley Springs, WV and Kathryn Erwin of Virginia Beach, VA; her devoted dog, Sassy. Also survived by many relatives and friends. Joan was a proud and dedicated Navy wife for over thirty years. She always found time to volunteer in various capacities from soap box derby judge to hospital aid. She enjoyed reading, tap dancing and cooking. She was renowned for her delicious cookies and soup. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 11am at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A private inurnment at the Naval Academy will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, c/o Mandrin House, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
