Joann Louise Gallagher McCloy - Obituary

J

oann Louise Gallagher McCloy, age 82, of Temple Hills, MD, departed this earthly life on January 27, 2026, after her battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born to the late John and Helen Gallagher on April 20, 1943, in Shamokin, PA. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School, Pulaski Junior High School and graduated from Coal Township High School in 1961. Shortly after high school, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the F.B.I. It was there that she met her late husband, Edgar J. McCloy. They eventually moved to Maryland where they raised their family. Joann was a practicing Catholic and attended church faithfully until her health kept her from participating fully in person. When she could not make it to mass, she would watch it on television. Joann took on several jobs over the years while she was raising a family. She worked at Memco, Miller’s Interiors and Port of Italy Restaurant. She volunteered and substituted at Middle Valley Elementary where her children attended school. She also taught CCD at St. Philip’s. Later, she worked at Black Eyed Pea Restaurant. She retired after many years of serving as the office manager for ENT doctors. Joann enjoyed coaching softball with her husband, dancing, reading, crocheting, playing BINGO, completing puzzle books, relaxing in Ocean City, watching Days of Our Lives, Wheel Of Fortune and Jeopardy, and rooting for the New York Giants and New York Yankees. She also enjoyed decorating for the holidays and making each one memorable. Most importantly, she enjoyed being with her family where love and laughter were in abundance. Joann is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar J. McCloy; son, Kelly McCloy; daughter, Kimberly McCloy Webster; brother, Kenny Gallagher; brother-in-law, Larry Joyce; nephew, Bryan Joyce; and niece, Melissa Gallagher Guiswhite. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Pamela McCloy Stewart (Ronnie) and James J. McCloy (Beth); a son-in-law, Jim Webster; siblings, Arlene Joyce, Corinne Marut (Ralph), Kevin Gallagher (Lisa), Denise Orndorff (Bill) and Rochelle Wolfgang (Ralph); grandchildren, Robbie, Destiny (James), Brandon (Chant’e), Kelsey and Eddie; great-grandchildren, Payton, Danny, Camryn, Cassidy, Jade and Junior and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Joann's life celebration on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 10 A.M. until her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 5416 Henderson Way, Camp Springs, MD 20746.
