Joanne Elizabeth Ross - Obituary

oanne Elizabeth Ross, 85, a 57-year resident of Bowie, MD, passed away on October 28, 2018 after a 5-year battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Born on April 28, 1933 in Washington, DC to the late Joseph R. and Audrey M. Williams, Joanne earned a Master’s Degree in Education and pursued a teaching career with the Prince George’s County School System. She was a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and crafts but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and caring for her four-legged friends. Joanne was preceded in death by her loving husband of 22 years, Thomas Prescott Ross who died in 1977 and two brothers, Thomas J. Williams and Joseph R. Williams. She is survived by three sons, Thomas P. Ross, Jr. of Davidsonville, MD, Joseph Ross of Georgia, Mark D. Ross of Martinsburg, WV; two daughters, Pamela A. Allen and Deborah A. Brown, both of Severn, MD; three grandsons, Thomas Bovee, Sean O’Brien and Mark Ross, Jr.; and three granddaughters, Shannon O’Brien, Paige Turner and Ashley Pardo. Friends are invited to celebrate Joanne’s life with her family at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, October 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at Mount Oak United Methodist Church, 14110 Mt. Oak Road, Bowie, MD on Wednesday, October 31 at 11 a.m.followed by interment in the church cemetery.
