Joe M. Heard, Jr. - Obituary

oe Mitchell Heard, Jr., 99, a resident of Annapolis, MD for 5 years and previously of Waynesboro, VA for 44 years, passed away at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Born on December 19, 1918 in Robinson, GA to the late Sallie J. and Joseph M. Heard, Sr., Joe earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University. His military service during World War II was deferrred in order for him to work on the Manhattan Project in Oakridge, TN. His hobbies included bridge, chess, politics and betting on the horses. Joe is survived by his wife of 75 years, Rebecca W. Heard; his daughter-in-law, Janet Heard; his granddaughters, Michelle Pepersack and Jeanette Machen; his great-grandson, Nicholas Machen and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his son, David M. Heard; his daughter, Sallie J. Hodgekinson; his son-in-law; Mont Hodgekinson; his grandson, Adam Hodgekinson; his brothers, Merrill Heard, Frank and John Moseley and his sisters, Celest Barnes and Vivian Gravitte.
