ohn W. Bryan of Forest Heights, MD passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the age of 96, after a short illness. Born in Washington, DC to Mary and Orlando Bryan, he was raised in College Park, MD and graduated from Hyattsville High School and the University of Maryland (BSEE).
John loved God, his country, and his large loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife Betty and his three children, John II (Carolina), Linn Monahan (Tom) and Shannon Kathleen Gales (Patrick). He was especially proud of his eight grandchildren, Beatriz Jarvis (Josh), John Bryan III, Shae Bryan, Bradley Monahan, Ginny Monahan, Kallie Koenigsknecht (Scott), Erin Gales and Morgan Gales. He will also be missed by his siblings Catherine Thibodeau, Christopher Bryan, Sister Josephine Bryan and Pauline Duff, his two great grandchildren Flor Jarvis and Abraham Jarvis, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Manual and Anne Buckley.
John served four years in the United States Army with the 71st Infantry during World War II. He had a long successful engineering career working for the Naval Research Lab, NASA – Goddard, Old Dominion Systems and EG&G. In recent years he was active with his church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Southern Prince Georges County Republican Club. He enjoyed golfing with the Wet Shoes at Tantallon Golf Club until just a few years ago.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Bryan's Celebration of Life on Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Saint Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.
