John Thomas Dorsett, Sr. - Obituary

ohn Thomas "Bear” Dorsett, Sr., of Annapolis, MD passed away on August 27, 2021. John was born in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Ralph and Beryl Dorsett on August 4, 1949. He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, as well as the University of Maryland in College Park, earning a Master's Degree in Econometrics. John's career took him from the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC to the Patuxent Naval Air Station, where he retired as the Technical Director of Cost Analysis of Naval Weapons Systems. He was a member of Weems Creek Baptist Church in Annapolis, where he was the youth director for several years. Then he was a member of Riva Trace Baptist Church in Davidsonville. No matter the boat size or make, John enjoyed being on the water. A motor boat, sail boat, kayak, windsurfer, etc. called John to the water. John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen Dorsett; children, John (Brenda Michael) Dorsett, Jr. of Glen Burnie and Melanie (Michael) Mathesz of Gambrills; a brother, James (Joni) Dorsett of Annapolis and a grandson, Jeremy Mathesz. Friends are invited to celebrate John's life with a viewing on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5 - 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037; and with a funeral service on Friday, September 3 at 1 pm at Kalas as well.
