ohn Henry Dove
John Henry Dove, 84, a lifelong resident of Edgewater, died February 21 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born August 6, 1929 in Maryland to the late Wilson and Lucille Dove.
John worked as a tree expert for Asplundh Tree Company, and went on to co-own Annapolis Tree Experts, Inc. His love and skill with beagles landed him in the National Beagle Hall of Fame and closer to home John was a member of the Southern Maryland and Patapsco Ridge Beagle clubs. John also enjoyed the Baltimore Orioles, Maryland Terrapin Basketball, and spending time with his family to include his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis "Chucky"; brother, Richard; and his former wife, Betty. He is survived by four children from his marriage to Betty, Brandon (Kim) and Mark (Mary) of Edgewater, Kevin (Reneva) of Shady Side, and Tracey of Annapolis; and two children from his marriage to Irene, Dennis (Stephanie) Taylor of Edgewater and Betty of Annapolis; two brothers, Wilson and Alvin both of Harwood; and a sister, Dorothy League of Annapolis; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Mt. Zion UMC. A luncheon will take place at the church after returning from the interment.
Friends are invited to John's Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, February 26 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home 2973 Solomons Island Road Edgewater. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, February 27 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 122 Bayard Road, Lothian, followed by interment at Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations, may be made to the American Heart Association.
