ohn Garland Ironmonger, 87, of Annapolis, MD passed away on Wednesday, January 13 at his home. Born on May 2, 1928 in Seaford, VA to the late John and Elizabeth Ironmonger, John earned a master's degree in business from Chicago University, attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. A retired Colonel, he served in the United States Air Force from 1949 until 1979 as a 1111Z tactical fighter pilot. He flew 83 combat missions during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement, John worked as the Director of Development at St. Anselm's Abbey School in Washington, D.C. from 1980-87 and the Chief of Maintenance at the Severn School from 1987-93. He also was a business/ management teacher at Anne Arundel Community College. He was a member of the F-86 Sabre Pilots Association, and enjoyed boating, woodworking, caring for his home, yard and his pet cat. In 2013, John was preceded in death by his wife, Joan. They were married in 1950. He is survived by his two children, Douglas and Sandy Ironmonger both of Annapolis, MD; three grand children, Andrew, Hannah and Rachel Ironmonger and one great-grandchild, Griffin Ironmonger.
