J

ohn R. James, Sr., 99, a resident of Davidsonville, MD and formerly of College Park, MD for fifty years, died on Wednesday, March 31 at home. Born on July 26, 1921 in Jessup, PA to the late Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth James, John was a Corporal in the US Army during World War II. He was a D-Day survivor and served with the 3704th Quartermaster Truck Company attached to the 471st Quartermaster Battalion. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked as a supervisor/ superintendent in road construction. John was a member of the College Park VFW and the Chesapeake Beach American Legion. In his spare time he liked to read, do puzzles and help at the farmers market. He is survived by his wife of more than 74 years, Frances R. James; his children, John R. James, Jr. of College Park, MD, Francis B. James of Carbondale, PA, Wayne M. James of Berlin, MD, Barbara A. Davis of Davidsonville, MD and Jennifer J. Diatz of Frederick, MD; his brother, Edward James of Blakely, PA; his grandchildren, Christopher, Robert and John James, Raymond Davis, IV, David and Kathleen Diatz, Shelly Griffith, Jennifer Hudson and Annie Zelechowski and 14 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate John's life on Wednesday, April 7 from 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where his funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 8 at 12:30 pm. Interment is at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Condolences may be made by using the tab on this page.
