ohn Winteron Johnson of Oxon Hill, Maryland, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of laughter, dance, and joy. Raised in Maryland, John was educated in Prince George's County Public Schools and worked for years at a local Oxon Hill bakery. After retiring, he channeled his industrious energy into becoming the ultimate handyman, continuously working in his yard. He was also a true, die-hard "Redskins" fan. John lived life at maximum volume. He loved his family and his kids fiercely. John just loved the joy of life and people. He ruled the dance floor whenever an "Oldies But Goodies" song played. His favorite song was Lenny Williams' 1978 soul classic, "Cause I Love You." He was also the undisputed King of trash-talk—always leaving people laughing. He spent his happiest hours hanging out with his family and best friends: his brother Steven Johnson, Ernest Hemsley, and Trent Dorsey. He was proud to call himself a Johnson—"Mr. King Johnson," if you didn’t know, he would let you know it. He also leaves behind his close friend, Sandra Robin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Johnson; his daughter, Latonya Johnson; and his grandson, Demontti Johnson. You can bet the music in Heaven just got a lot louder with laughter. John’s boisterous spirit lives on through his children, John Johnson and Keyonna Johnson-Wallace (married to Gary E. Wallace Sr.); his devoted sister, Juanita Johnson; and his brother, Steven Johnson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tieasha, John Jr., Lexi, and Kieara; five great-grandchildren; and a large, loving host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. His bold personality and infectious joy will be deeply missed. Relatives and friends are invited to John's Life Celebration on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 11 a.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
