John Lanza - Obituary

ohn “Pop” M. Lanza, Sr., a 12-year resident of Harwood, MD and previously of Mayo, MD died at Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, MD on Friday, March 4, 2011 of natural causes. Born August 23, 1924 in Lorain, OH, John graduated from Forest Park High School in 1943 and then served in the United States Army Air Corps as a clerk/typist from 1943 to 1945 and was present at the Battle of the Bulge. He owned Town and Country Home Improvement with his brother, Sal. John was a member of American Legion, Post 226 in Mayo, MD and loved going to the horse track, watching horse racing, football, lacrosse and spending time with his grandchildren. John was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Lanza in 1977. He is survived by his son, John M. Lanza, Jr. and his wife, Genny and two grandchildren, Shane and Rachel Lanza, both of Harwood, MD. Friends are invited to John’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, where services will be held on Wednesday, March 9 at 10am. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD. Memorial donations may be made in John’s name to Hospice of the Chesapeake, c/o Mandrin Hospice House, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
